How large should a fireplace screen be?

A fireplace screen should be sized to fully cover the fireplace opening, both in width and height, so the mesh can safely contain sparks and embers.

What is the difference between lacquered and unlacquered brass fireplace screens?

Lacquered brass fireplace screens have a clear protective coating applied over the metal frame to prevent tarnishing and oxidation. Unlacquered brass fireplace screens are left raw, allowing them to develop a patina over time. Each unlacquered brass fireplace screen requires periodic polishing to maintain a bright shine.

What types of fireplace screens are there?

  • Freestanding panel fire screens — Single-panel or multi-panel (typically 3-panel) screens that stand on their own in front of the fireplace opening.
